Mission:
The Island is physically
isolated from major medical and mental health centers. Health
and human service providers on the Island work together to provide
the full range of needed services to support families. However,
given the isolation and the complexities of issues that all families
face, it is even more important to maximize integration of services
to Islanders.
The objective of
the conference is to assist Island professionals in learning more
effective ways to expand and enhance the linkages between services
and to envision new ways to provide integrated services that will
support families. Our theme this year will be Inclusion: A
Path to Enriching Our Community.
Our focus is on
engaging the Vineyard community in efforts to increase awareness,
break down barriers, decrease stigma, and provide appropriate
person/family-centered services and supports to better serve Island
families. Through presentations made by people who have personally
experienced a disability or issue that could affect any one of
us, conference participants will have the opportunity to learn
directly people affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder, Physical
Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia,
sexual assault and cultural differences. Attendees will gain knowledge
and awareness of how to best provide services and supports for
inclusion of all people, enriching the entire community.
