Beliefs:

Families...
Are unique;
Have different capabilities;
Need flexibility to meet needs;
Should have the lead role in determining what
supports they need;
Have needs that change through the life cycle.
Program
Goals:
Enhance
families' capacities ;
Keep families together;
Support families to be 'just a family'.
Eligibility:
Families who have a family member(s) with
a developmental disability living at home are eligible for support through the
program.
Services
Available:
Information
and referral to a variety of community, local and state-wide resources (e.g. medical,
legal, educational, etc.);
Home visits or consultation to provide support
and information to the family who had a family member with a disability;
Seminars, trainings, workshops;
Limited financial support;
Parent networking;
'Whatever it takes' to support families.
The Family Support Program is funded
through a contract with the Department of Mental Retardation.
