Mission:
The mission of the MVCS John K. Pearce Fall Conference is to
present an opportunity for Island professionals to learn more
effective ways to expand and enhance the linkages between services
and envision new ways to provide integrated services that will
support individuals and families. The focus for 2008 is to engage
the Vineyard community in efforts to increase awareness, break
down barriers, decrease stigma, and provide appropriate person/family-centered
services and supports to better serve the Island community.
Different Like Me: Learning from the Experts offers presentations
by successful people who have personally experienced a disability
or issue that could affect any one of us. Presentations and workshops
will provide participants the opportunity to learn directly from
experts who have been impacted by: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Physical
Disabilities, Attention Deficit Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia,
sexual assault, domestic violence and cultural differences.
Attendees will gain understanding of the experiences of people
affected by differences and disabilities, and knowledge of how
to best provide services and supports for inclusion of all people,
enriching the entire community.
