Services
 |
The
mission of Disability Services is to promote maximum community
integration and independence of Island residents with disabilities. |
Disability Services
embodies the philosophy that individuals and families are the best
decision-makers concerning their lives. Disability Services
lends support and guidance to make and implement those decisions.
The programs are 'CARF' accredited assuring consumers the highest
standards of service. The three programs that provide comprehensive
services and supports under the umbrella of Disability Services
are:
- Daybreak
Clubhouse,
a drop-in center for those with mental illness that provides
vocational/social rehabilitation services. The Clubhouse offers
meaningful work, friendships, and opportunities for adults coping
with mental illness.
Daybreak supports members in developing skills for personal
growth and wellness. They are engaged in a structured work-ordered
day working side-by-side in all the operations of the clubhouse.
Daybreak also offers a way to form relationships.
Daybreak offers transitional employment placements at places
like Martha's Vineyard Times , Murdock's Fudge, the Family Center
of MVCS, Morning Glory, and Chamber of Commerce. Members enjoy
weekend social outings such as movies, walks, going out to eat,
and off-island trips and participate in community activities
such as the Tisbury Beautification Project and Comsog.
- Family
Support Program (click
here for more information)
provides support to families with family members who have
developmental disabilities in the communities of Martha's Vineyard
and Nantucket. The program strives to do what it takes
to support families to stay together and to access needed supports
and services. The Family Support Program is funded through a
contract with the Department of Mental Retardation.
- Island
Employment Services (click
here for more information)
is
funded by the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC)
to provide a wide range of employee service each year. IES
has been providing services on the Island since 1987, and has
maintained one of the highest placement records and job retention
records in the State. The staff of IES has been recognized
at the regional, state, and national level for their accomplishments
on Martha's Vineyard.
