#2 Bag Some Big Boys With Buddy
The inimitable Captain Buddy Vanderhoop will take you and your guest out on his charter fishing boat, the Tomahawk, between July 29 and September 20, 2013, to catch some BIG FISH with Harvard Law Professor Charles Ogletree, who’s great company and no slouch with a rod and reel. #3 At the Playhouse with “Monk” and Adams
You and five friends will be in the front row at the Vineyard Playhouse as Tony Shalhoub and his wife Brooke Adams appear on stage in Carol Rocamora’s “I TAKE YOUR HAND IN MINE…” A play suggested by the love letters of Anton Chekhov and Olga Knipper. Following the show, relax over cocktails with Mr. Shalhoub and Ms. Adams, who met in 1989 while performing on Broadway. Mr. Shalhoub may be best known for his lead role in the award-winning TV hit show Monk but he is a versatile performer on stage and in film as well. Ms. Adams has appeared in a wide array of film (Days of Heaven, Invasion of the Body Snatchers), TV and theatrical roles, including the Broadway comedy Lend Me A Tenor and Chekhov classicThe Cherry Orchard. #6 The Capital Dream
In this whirlwind visit to Washington, you and three others will take in an exciting Capitals hockey game from the owners’ box with special host and longtime Community Services supporter Jack Davies. This overnight trip begins in the early afternoon when a limousine picks you up at the airport, provides your group a look at the capital’s sights, and then drops you at your luxury hotel (two rooms for one night) to rest up before you head to the Verizon Center for the game and dinner and drinks with Jack and others in the team’s ownership group. #7 Tea For Two — With Six Female Literary Lights
You and a friend will be guests for tea with some of the Island’s most celebrated female writers, at the home of Joan and Henry Kriegstein. The group will include Island treasure, human rights activist and poet Rose Styron (By Vineyard Light; Selected Letters of William Styron); Pulitzer Prize-winning author Geraldine Brooks (March; Caleb’s Crossing); civil rights champion; popular Island story teller, editor and author Susan Klein (Martha’s Vineyard – Now and Zen; And Now Would You Please Welcome…); noted children’s book author Kate Feiffer (No Go Sleep!; Henry, the Dog With No Tail); and Rachel Baird, the first seasonal poet laureate of Martha’s Vineyard, who will compose a poem just for the occasion. This year, you and a guest will fly on Cape Air from the Vineyard to Boston, where you’ll be whisked to the Commonwealth Avenue studios of WBUR, Boston’s NPR® News Station – the parent station of the Vineyard’s new 92.7 WBUA. There, as “Associate Producer for a Day,” you’ll join national host Tom Ashbrook and his staff in the On Point studio for the program’s national broadcast. After a working lunch at the station with senior staff members, you’ll meet national host Robin Young of Here & Now. Robin will conduct an interview with you and your guest – and you’ll come away with a priceless, archival recording that tells the story of your life, your relationship, or whatever topic you choose. That night, you’ll stay in the luxurious Eliot Hotel and enjoy a fabulous dinner at Upstairs on the Square in Cambridge. #22 Hollywood and Vine(yard) with Doug Liman
Acclaimed producer and director Doug Liman (Swingers, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the Bourne trilogy) will take you for a spin in his plane around the Island, followed by breakfast or lunch at The Plane View at Martha’s Vineyard Airport. But that’s just to prepare you for the high-flying atmosphere of a Hollywood premiere. You’ll receive two tickets to the 2014 premiere of his blockbuster Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, in either Tokyo, London or L.A., your choice.
