Supporting the Work of
Martha's Vineyard Community Services

"Community means strength that joins our strength
to do the work that needs to be done." -
Starhawk

What draws us all to Martha's Vineyard and keeps us here, or keeps us coming back? The natural beauty is an integral part of living here for me, but just as important, is the community we have. Small town, rural, close knit, caring - there are many adjectives that describe my feelings for this special place.

As I have become more aware of how lives are touched by the depth and breadth of the work of Community Services. I realize how important our investment is to sustaining the Vineyard. Without day care for working families, mental health services, visits from visiting nurses, support for women in crisis, or services for families and individuals with disabilities many of our friends and neighbors would find it hard to function day-to-day. Last year, Community Services
Provided the services and supports needed by more than 6,000 people - young and old, middle class and poor, residents and vacationers. Every day, the work of our dedicated staff, enhances lives and strengthens and improves the community we share.

Please show your support for the Martha's Vineyard community by making a donation to our 2007-2008 Annual Giving Campaign. I know there are many compelling requests for your charitable contributions. Thank you for considering this important investment that will make such a difference in the quality of life on the Island we share.

With appreciation,

Susan Wasserman

HAVE YOU INCLUDED MVCS IN YOUR WILL?
What was the most successful and satisfying gift you ever gave? If you could make the most meaningful gift for you, what would you want to accomplish by making it? These are perhaps the most important questions to consider when preparing for any type of planned gift - a bequest, a trust, a gift of real estate or stock.

The Buchwald Society for Planned Giving
In December 2006, the Board of Martha's Vineyard Community Services established the Buchwald Society for Planned Giving in honor of Art Buchwald, the man who did so much for so many over his 26 years as the Auctioneer of the Possible Dreams Auction and through his many other charitable activities. Through his dedication and caring, Art built a safety net for families on the Vineyard. Planned gifts in his honor will insure that his work in taking care of Island families will continue for many years to come and can be made through a number of vehicles including bequests in your will or trust, retirement fund gifts, life insurance, life income, retained life estates, and/or charitable lead trusts.

Each year, the staff of Martha's Vineyard Community Services touches, strengthens, and improves the lives of many of your neighbors here on Martha's Vineyard. Your bequest or planned gift to Community Services will safeguard our 'safety net' for Islanders and can be your legacy for the community of Martha's Vineyard.

If you would like to join the Buchwald Society with your own planned gift, please contact Jan Hatchard in the MVCS Development Office at 508-693-7900 x374 or by email at jhatchard@mvcommunityservices.com.
