All Families Touched by Adoption (AFTA)
All Families Touched by Adoption (AFTA) is a monthly discussion group. The mission of this group is to enrich the lives of children, families and all those touched by or considering adoption. We hope to provide education, support, communication and resources to all. For more information please contact Kim D’Arcy at 508-687-9182.
Baby’s 1st Year
An open discussion group for parents with a child up to the age of 1 year – Parents have an opportunity to share concerns and questions and discuss issues around infant feeding, sleeping and day to day development in his/her first year of life. Baby’s 1st Year is held every Thursday morning at the Family Center.
Coffee and Conversation
This is for any parent looking for a quiet moment to talk with other parents about parenting issues and child development. This group meets on Friday mornings 9:30-11 at the Family Center. This multi week series requires pre-registration and offers onsite childcare.
An open playgroup were Dads and their kids can enjoy everything the Family Center has to offer, block building, painting, games and more. Snacks included!
Drop-in gives families time to use the Family Center space outside of structured playgroup times. There is always a staff member or volunteer on site to welcome families and provide information. This is not a facilitated playgroup. Families set up their own activities choosing from the available Family Center materials. Families leave the space as they found it.
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
This discussion group meets on the second Saturday of every month. Grandparents raising grandchildren share challenges, provide mutual support and receive resource information.
An open playgroup on Thursday mornings at The Boys & Girls Club in Edgartown – Gym Time begins in early December and lasts until late April. During gym time kids and their families can move playing with balls, bikes, parachutes and obstacle courses. A great way to run off extra energy. The Family Center provides all materials for this activity.
Learn with Me
Learn with Me is on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. This hands-on program invites families to explore our monthly themes in a fun, educational and interactive way at various locations in our community.
The Family Center will collaborate with our local libraries. Each month we will visit a different library.
An open playgroup on Thursday mornings – This play time is held at different island parks and properties each week from early May until late November. Playgroups are sometimes cancelled due to weather, please check the Family Center Facebook page for information.
The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC)
The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meets one evening a month with members of the Family Center staff. Parents are welcome to join the PAC or attend a meeting at any
time to share an opinion, question or concern about the program. Parent feedback is used extensively in program planning, design and implementation. PAC members share in the leadership of the group by taking turns leading meetings, setting meeting agendas and completing tasks set by the group. All parents are invited and encouraged to become involved.
At the Family Center we offer parent education workshops. Our workshops cover various topics such as sibling rivalry, sleep shaping, financial education and nutrition. Parent feedback is used to determine the monthly topics for this continuing education. These workshops usually include dinner and childcare. All workshops require pre-registration for both attendance and childcare.
Partners in Parenting
Partners in Parenting is a monthly opportunity for parenting partners to meet other couples with young children and share the rewards and challenges of raising young children.
Play with Me
An open playgroup every Monday and Wednesday morning at the Family Center. Play with Me emphasizes the importance of families being children’s first educators. This is a facilitated playgroup focusing on our monthly themes. There are different planned activities to choose from such as blocks, manipulatives, books, dramatic play and arts and crafts.
The SWAP SHOP provides free gently used young children’s clothing, infant equipment and supplies. It is open during programming and by appointment. Donations are accepted during programming and by appointment only. All donations must first be approved by Family Center staff.
This activity takes place on the third Wednesday of each month at the old Aquinnah town hall. It is a time for stories, songs, play and exploration in a new venue.
