Martha’s Vineyard Community Services Senior Services Behavioral Health Program provides services to seniors in the local senior centers, in the elder’s home, and in our accessible offices at the Island Counseling Center.
Individual, couple and family therapeutic services are available to deal with issues of aging, grief, depression, anxiety and are aimed at reducing isolation, supporting improved functioning, increasing independence and reducing barriers by supporting seniors in accessing and coordinating services. Support for caregivers is provided through the Caregivers Support Group.
Senior Services Programming:
CORE provides coordinated care through a combination of community, office and home based behavioral health and supports for people 55 years and older. CORE offers:
- Free mental health assessments
- Care coordination
- Home visits
- Referrals to available resources
- Support groups & referrals for
psychiatric visits at the Island
Counseling Center (ICC)
- In-home counseling for people unable to visit the office
FirstStop Martha’s Vineyard is a web-based and call-in information and referral program that serves as a single starting point to support the health and wellness of the Island community by connecting people to information and critical resources for Island seniors. Search the online database by keyword or topic in order to locate a service provider or other resource that may be able to help you or your loved ones. FirstStop Martha’s Vineyard referral programs include:
- Consumer advocacy
- Elder abuse & neglect resources
- Employment & volunteering
- Financial resources
- Home care
- Legal assistance
- Social outings
- Educational opportunities
Are you a caregiver?
The Caregivers Support Group offers free group support and discussions for Caregivers. Discussion topics include: wellness, meditation, challenges and joys of caregiving, reducing stress and increasing knowledge of caregiving issues and needs.
The group meets twice a month on the first and third Thursday of the month at 10:30AM in Conference Room 1 in Building C on the MVCS campus. For more information and confirmation of time and place please contact Allison McKinley at ext. 217.

MVCS Senior Services are funded by the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, Dukes County, Elder Services of Cape Cod & the Islands, Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs and the Federal Administration for Community Living and all six Island towns: Oak Bluffs, Chilmark, Edgartown, West Tisbury, Vineyard Haven and Aquinnah.
CORE is funded by a Community Initiative Grant of the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital.
The Caregivers support group is partially funded by a Title III Grant from Elder Services of Cape Cod.
